SocialScheduler vs Buffer
Buffer is a social media scheduler priced per channel. The Free plan covers 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts each. Essentials costs $6 a channel a month ($5 billed yearly) and Team costs $12 a channel ($10 billed yearly), with unlimited users, approval workflows and branded reports on Team only.
The best Buffer alternative for an agency is a tool priced per client, not per channel, that also does the planning. SocialScheduler is an AI social media scheduler for agencies: it plans each client's week, writes every post in that client's voice, gets approval from the client by email link without a login, publishes on 20 networks and sends a Monday report. Five clients with three channels each cost $49 a month on SocialScheduler and about $140 a month on Buffer Team.

What Buffer doesn't do.
- The week plans itself for every client, on a schedule. You approve.
- A brief, voice rules and learned rules per client, so drafts sound right.
- Clients approve or ask for a change from an email link, no login, and nothing goes out before they do.
- Monday reports per client, sent automatically under your logo, plus a roll-up for you.
What Buffer is best at
Buffer is one of the oldest social media scheduling tools and it shows in the good ways. The composer is clean, the queue is easy to read, and the Free plan lets one person schedule to 3 channels without paying. The AI Assistant is free and unlimited on every plan, and since May 2026 Buffer has an official MCP server, so Claude or ChatGPT can draft and schedule into your Buffer queue.
Buffer's Community inbox is also broad. It pulls in comments from 10 networks, including TikTok, LinkedIn, Google Business Profile and Mastodon, which SocialScheduler's inbox does not cover. If you run one brand, write your own posts and mostly want a reliable queue and a place to answer comments, Buffer is a strong, fairly priced choice.
Approvals and client reporting
In Buffer, approval workflows come with the Team plan. A user with approval-required access writes drafts, and an admin or a user with full posting access approves them. To let a client approve, you invite them as a user of your organization and they sign in with their own Buffer login. Buffer's own agency guide notes that admins can manage any channel in the organization, so you set access per channel with care.
SocialScheduler gives each client a separate workspace with its own brief, voice rules and accounts. The client gets an email link and can approve, comment or ask for a change without an account. You can also approve everything yourself, or put a client on full autopilot. Every Monday each client gets a report under your agency's name, and you get a roll-up across all clients. Buffer's branded reports are something you build and send yourself.
Questions people ask.
What is the best Buffer alternative for agencies?
For agencies that want the posts planned and written, SocialScheduler: it plans each client's week, gets client approval by email link and sends a Monday report, from $49 a month for 5 clients. If you only need a queue with deeper approval routing, tools like Planable or SocialPilot are also common picks.
How much does Buffer cost in 2026?
Buffer has a Free plan for 3 channels, Essentials at $6 a channel a month and Team at $12 a channel a month, or $5 and $10 billed yearly. Channels 11 to 25 cost $4 each on monthly billing. Prices checked September 2026.
Is SocialScheduler cheaper than Buffer for an agency?
Yes once you pass a few channels. Five clients with 3 channels each cost about $140 a month on Buffer Team and $49 a month on SocialScheduler Business. For a single brand with 3 channels, Buffer Essentials at $18 a month is cheaper.
Is there a free version of Buffer?
Yes. Buffer's Free plan covers up to 3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel and one user, with the AI Assistant included. SocialScheduler's Free plan covers 1 client with 3 accounts and 20 AI credits a month.
Does Buffer have client approvals?
Yes, on the Team plan. Clients are invited as users and approve drafts inside Buffer with their own login. In SocialScheduler the client approves from an email link without a login.
Does Buffer's AI assistant plan the week for me?
No. Buffer's AI Assistant writes ideas and rewrites posts when you open it, and it does not generate images or video. SocialScheduler plans every client's week on Sunday, writes each post in the client's voice and designs the images, carousels and short videos.
Can Buffer reply to DMs?
No. Buffer Community handles comments on 10 networks but not direct messages. SocialScheduler's inbox handles comments and DMs on Instagram, Facebook, Threads, X, YouTube and Bluesky, with keyword auto-replies and lead magnets by DM.
Which networks does SocialScheduler support that Buffer does not?
Reddit, Telegram, Discord, Slack, Dev.to, Hashnode, WordPress, ListMonk and Lemmy. Buffer supports Substack, which SocialScheduler does not.
Can I move from Buffer to SocialScheduler?
Yes. Connect each client's accounts, paste a short brief and choose who approves. There is nothing to import: the first week is planned from the brief and the accounts' history.
