SocialScheduler vs Hootsuite
Hootsuite is a social media management suite priced per user: publishing (Perch), a social inbox (Nest), listening (Lumen) and an AI assistant (Wisdom). Standard costs $99 per user a month for 10 social accounts, Professional $199 and Advanced $399 with unlimited accounts, all billed annually. Enterprise is custom.
The best Hootsuite alternative for a small agency is one priced per client instead of per user that also plans the content. SocialScheduler is an AI social media scheduler for agencies: it plans each client's week, writes every post in that client's voice, gets approval by email link without a login, publishes on 20 networks and sends a Monday report. Five clients and three users cost $49 a month on SocialScheduler and $597 a month on Hootsuite Professional, billed annually.

What Hootsuite doesn't do.
- The week plans itself for every client, on a schedule. You approve.
- A brief, voice rules and learned rules per client, so drafts sound right.
- Clients approve or ask for a change from an email link, no login, and nothing goes out before they do.
- Monday reports per client, sent automatically under your logo, plus a roll-up for you.
What Hootsuite is best at
Hootsuite is built for teams that talk to a lot of people on social. Its Nest inbox pulls comments and DMs from eight networks, including WhatsApp, LinkedIn and TikTok, and adds saved replies, auto-routing by skill, SLA alerts, CSAT surveys and masking of personal data. Lumen adds listening: 7 days of mention search on Standard, 30 days on Professional, and news, blogs and forums on Enterprise, with sentiment and trend forecasts.
Around that sit competitor benchmarking (5 competitors on Standard, 20 from Professional), Canva and Adobe Express templates, bulk scheduling of up to 350 posts, ads management, SSO and compliance tools on Enterprise. If your job is customer care, brand monitoring or coordinating a large in-house team, Hootsuite covers ground that SocialScheduler does not try to cover.
Approvals and client reporting
Hootsuite's approval workflows arrive on Advanced, at $399 per user a month. They route drafts between team members inside Hootsuite. Documenting an approval that happened outside Hootsuite, such as a client saying yes by email, is an Enterprise feature. Reports are strong: templates on Standard, custom, exported and scheduled reports from Professional, and white-label reports for agencies.
SocialScheduler gives each client a separate workspace with its own brief, voice rules and accounts. The client gets an email link and can approve, comment or ask for a change without an account, on every plan including Free. You can also approve everything yourself or put a client on autopilot. Every Monday each client gets a report under your agency's name, and you get a roll-up across all clients, without building it.
When a small agency outgrows Hootsuite Professional
Hootsuite's own plan page says Professional is not the best fit for teams with multiple stakeholders reviewing content or structured approval processes. For an agency, the client is a stakeholder on every post. So the moment clients need to sign off inside the tool, the realistic plan is Advanced, and the bill doubles.
The other pressure is headcount. Each freelancer, account manager or intern you add is another full seat at $199 or $399 a month. SocialScheduler prices by the number of clients instead: Business includes 3 seats per client and Agency 10 seats per client, so adding a teammate does not change the bill.
Questions people ask.
What is the best Hootsuite alternative for agencies?
For agencies that want the posts planned and written for each client, SocialScheduler: it plans every client's week, gets client approval by email link and sends a Monday report, from $49 a month for 5 clients. If you mainly need a large shared inbox, Agorapulse and Sprout Social are the usual picks.
How much does Hootsuite cost in 2026?
Standard is $99 per user a month for 10 social accounts, Professional $199 and Advanced $399 with unlimited accounts, all billed annually. Monthly billing costs more and Enterprise is custom. Prices checked September 2026.
Is there a cheaper alternative to Hootsuite?
Yes. SocialScheduler Business is $49 a month for 5 clients, 15 accounts and 3 seats per client, and there is a free plan for 1 client. The same agency on Hootsuite Professional pays $597 a month for 3 users.
Is Hootsuite still free?
No. Hootsuite has no free plan. It offers a 14-day free trial without a credit card, limited to 10 to 20 posts a day and without bulk scheduling.
Does SocialScheduler have a social inbox?
Yes. It handles comments and DMs for Instagram, Facebook, Threads, X, YouTube and Bluesky, with keyword rules for auto-replies, lead magnets by DM, auto-likes and auto-reposts. It has no inbox for LinkedIn, TikTok, Pinterest or WhatsApp, where Hootsuite's inbox is the better fit.
Which Hootsuite plan has approvals?
Approval workflows start on Advanced at $399 per user a month. Documenting approvals that happen outside Hootsuite is Enterprise only. SocialScheduler includes client approvals by email link on every plan.
Which is better, Hootsuite or Buffer?
Buffer is cheaper and simpler, priced per channel from $6 a month. Hootsuite costs more per user but adds a full inbox with routing, listening and benchmarking. Neither plans the content for you; SocialScheduler does.
Does SocialScheduler do social listening?
No. It studies top posts in each client's niche to learn what performs, but it does not track brand mentions or sentiment. If listening is core to your work, Hootsuite or a dedicated listening tool is the better fit.
Can I move from Hootsuite to SocialScheduler?
Yes. Connect each client's accounts, paste a short brief and choose who approves. There is nothing to import: the first week is planned from the brief and the accounts' history.
