Twitter screenshot generator: turn a real X post into a clean image

Paste the link to a public X post and get a sharp PNG of it, with the name, handle, text, media and counts. Free, no sign-up, and no watermark.

To turn a tweet into an image, copy the post's link from X, paste it above and press Generate. The tool reads the public post and draws it as a clean white card with the avatar, name, handle, text, photos, date and counts. Download it as a PNG at twice screen resolution or copy it to the clipboard. It only renders real public posts; it does not let you write or edit a tweet.

How to use it

  1. 1On X, tap Share under the post and choose Copy link.
  2. 2Paste the link here and press Generate. The card loads with the real avatar, text and counts.
  3. 3Press Download PNG, or Copy Image to paste it straight into a design or an email.

What the image shows, and what it leaves out

The card copies the post as X shows it to a logged-out visitor: profile photo, display name, the blue verified badge when the account has one, the @handle, the full text with line breaks, and the date and time in your own time zone. Photos appear in a grid of up to four. A video or GIF shows its still frame with a play icon.

Counts come from X at the moment you press Generate. Replies, reposts (with quotes added in), likes and views show when they are above zero; bookmarks are not shown, and counts cannot be hidden yet.

  • Links in the text are removed, because X shortens them to t.co addresses that mean nothing in an image.
  • A quote post shows only the outer post, not the quoted one. Polls and link previews are not drawn.
  • Long posts from X Premium accounts can come through cut short.
  • The text cannot be edited. What you download is what the author posted.

Sizes for Instagram, LinkedIn carousels and newsletters

The PNG is about 880 pixels wide when you generate it on a laptop or desktop, and narrower on a phone, so make it on a computer when size matters. It has no padding or background, which makes it easy to drop onto a canvas of the right shape in Canva, Figma or any editor.

  • Instagram feed: a 1080 x 1350 canvas (4:5) gives the most room in the feed. 1080 x 1080 (1:1) also works. The 880 px card fits with about 100 px of margin on each side at full size.
  • Instagram and Facebook Stories: 1080 x 1920 (9:16). Keep the card in the middle, clear of the top and bottom 250 px where the app draws its buttons.
  • LinkedIn document carousel: use one page size for every slide, 1080 x 1350 or 1080 x 1080, and export the set as a PDF.
  • Newsletters: most email templates are 600 px wide. Show the PNG at 440 to 600 px wide and it stays sharp on retina screens.

Light and dark themes

The card comes in one theme: a white card with black text and gray counts, close to X's default light mode. There is no dark mode, dim mode, gradient or custom background option yet.

The white card still works on a dark design. Its corners are transparent, so you can place it on a black or brand-colored canvas and it reads as a card floating on the background. For a full dark look, a paid screenshot tool with theme settings, or a screenshot of X in dark mode, is the better choice today.

Credit the author and respect X's terms

A tweet belongs to the person who wrote it. X's terms say users keep the rights to what they post, and X handles copyright complaints about reposted text and images. A screenshot that keeps the name and handle visible is the usual way to quote a post, and it is how most people share a post outside X.

  • Keep the name, handle and date in the image. Do not crop them out.
  • Tag the author in your caption where the network allows it, or name them in the post.
  • Use your own posts and your clients' posts freely. For anyone else, quoting a post to comment on it is common; using it in an ad or to sell something needs their permission.
  • Never present an edited or made-up post as real. This tool cannot create one.

How to screenshot a tweet without a tool, and when the tool is better

You can take a plain screenshot: on iPhone press the side button and volume up together, on most Android phones press power and volume down, on a Mac press Shift, Command and 4 and drag, and on Windows press Windows, Shift and S. Then crop.

A plain screenshot also catches the app's menus, other replies, your battery icon and whatever mode your screen is in, and it is only as sharp as your display. A generated image is the post alone, cropped exactly, at twice the resolution, the same every time. X does not notify anyone when you take a screenshot or generate an image of their post.

How do I turn a tweet into an image?

Copy the post link from X, paste it into the box above and press Generate. Then press Download PNG or Copy Image.

Is this tweet screenshot generator free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no paid tier and no watermark. The only limit is 30 posts per 10 minutes from one IP address.

Can I make a fake tweet with this tool?

No. It only draws real public posts from X, and the text cannot be edited. If you need a mockup for a design, label it clearly as a mockup and never present it as a real post.

Does it have a dark mode?

Not yet. The card is white with black text. Its corners are transparent, so it sits cleanly on a dark canvas in your design tool.

What size should a tweet image be for Instagram?

Place the PNG on a 1080 x 1350 canvas (4:5) for the feed, or 1080 x 1920 (9:16) for Stories. Generate it on a computer so the card is 880 px wide and stays sharp.

Why won't my tweet load?

The post is probably from a protected account, deleted, marked sensitive, or the link is not a post link. The tool only sees what a logged-out visitor sees.

Is it legal to post a screenshot of someone's tweet?

Sharing a screenshot with the author's name and handle visible, to quote or comment on it, is common practice. The author keeps the rights, so ask first before using their post in ads or paid content, and remove it if they object.

Does X notify people when you screenshot their tweet?

No. X does not send a notification for screenshots, and this tool reads the public post without touching the author's account.

Can I screenshot a whole Twitter thread?

One post at a time. Generate each post in the thread from its own link, then stack the images or use them as carousel slides.

Can I schedule the image to Instagram or LinkedIn?

Download it, then add it to a post in SocialScheduler. The planner can also turn a client's best X posts into Instagram carousels and LinkedIn documents each week, for you to approve.
